Acupuncture Background

Acupuncture for Children - Shonishin - No Needles

Babies and children differ to adults, their meridian energy (qi) system is still developing just as their organs are, treatment involves your child sitting on your lap ( if they older, they can lie on the treatment table) whilst we work the body with gentle techniques. We use various techniques depending on their symptoms and temperament, we work with kids from age 1 month all the way to teens.

Shonishin

Gentle yet effective technique that babies and children love to receive, it translates to Children’s Needle Therapy, small metallic tools gently rub, scrape and tap the skin – this is all that is needed to stimulate their growing energy channels, which have incredible effects on their organ systems.

What is Ear Acupuncture?

Auricular Acupuncture, also known as Ear Acupuncture, is an Integrative style of medicine based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine in modern culture, treating the entire body. The process involves inserting needles into specific points on the ear, thus stimulating other parts of the body and targeting specific organs to renew and re – generate them. This has a powerful effect on the mind and body as the points are in close proximity to the brain.

Treatment Duration?

The treatment can take 5 – 15 minutes, depending on the size of your child and how hyperactive they are. Your child does not need to sit still. For an acute illness the child will need 2 – 3 treatments in week one, as they respond to energetic treatment. If the illness is chronic, the child will need 1 – 2 treatments per week for 2- 3 months.

What Are You Treating?

This treatment is for physical conditions as well as emotional issues, kids who have had falls, car accidents, tummy upsets, poor appetite, hyperactivity, colic, wind, smelly poos, fussy eater, aches and pains, diarrhoea, constipation, digestive problems, autism, ear infections, chronic coughs, respiratory infections, dry and itchy skin, sleep issues, overly high energy, low energy, low muscle tone, teething and a lot more.

Chinese Medicine has treatments for times when you think ” my child has been ill since…” this situation is referred to as a lingering pathogen, which at a low level there is still some kind of pathogen that is affecting your child and we need to strengthen their immune system and meridian energy in order to remove it so they can become balanced and get on with growing and being a kid.

Diet and Lifestyle

Chinese medicine looks at diet and lifestyle differently to western nutrition, we follow herbal and diet therapy as a means for recovery using popular chinese herbs for their healing power, adaptogens, natural remedies and consuming foods in each season to prepare, protect and strengthen the body.
